Clary & Jace FANSOURCE

Dominic talks season 1

Where does Clary fit into this? Is she joining their team?
DOMINIC: Clary is kind of the wrench in the system. Everything is kind of going great for Jace, where he is shadowhunting and then going off and having sordid affairs with different down-worlders and creatures and he is very happy in his life. He has his best friend and his team all set up and then Clary kind of turns up, and he’s like, “Oh, this is what love feels like. I’m not sure I like this.” She ruins the perfect equilibrium for everyone.

Is there is a romance blooming there between Jace and Clary?
DOMINIC: There is absolutely a romance brewing there. That is not to say, however, that it doesn’t come without intrigue and twists and turns throughout the season. So there are definitely some pretty major ups-and-downs for both Clary and Jace as individuals and as potential love-interests.

Clary and Jace both seemed surprised by each other and the fact that they do have feelings for each other. What do you enjoy about that relationship?
DOMINIC: It’s interesting to play a character who has his emotions so deep in him. He is not only a strong brother and cares deeply and passionately about the people around him, but he strives to hide all of that. He has been taught as a Shadowhunter that your emotions get in the way. For me, it was interesting to kind of be able to peel back these layers of structure in Jace that has been ingrained in him through his upbringing and through his training, and being able to peel those back and see very much that there is a softer-side to Jace inside his hard shell.

Kat and Dom during NYCC for season 1

For your characters this season what would you say is the biggest internal conflict?

Dominic Sherwood: Conflict…

Katherine McNamara: There’s so many!

Dominic Sherwood: They’re a few yeah…uhm parentage is a big one…

Katherine McNamara: For the both of us.

Dominic Sherwood: Jace goes through ahh, I think it’s Clary’s fault completely! But Jace goes through…

Katherine McNamara: Everything is Clary’s fault!

Dominic Sherwood: Everything was fine before Clary turned up. But Jace was a very good place in his life, he was good at his job, he was a good Shadowhunter, respected within the world uhm he had best friends, he had a family, he had people who loved him and he was happy where he was and then Clary turns up and his world, the carpet it pulled out under from who he is and everything changes for him. So this very quickly you start to see that this arrogance and confidence he has is shaken at its core. So for me it was like character traits that started to change with Jace and who Jace was as a person or as a Nephilim or whatever quickly became kind of changed because he had this new thing in his world that was completely unknown.

Katherine McNamara: And Clary from the beginning has everything taken away from her from the first ten to fifteen minutes of the show everything she knows, everything she loves, her entire world is turned upside down and changed. And from that point she really has to fight her way back from the ashes and find some kind of strength in her to overcome everything that’s happened but she’s lucky to have people like Jace and Simon and all of the other Shadowhunters around her to show her the way and to guide her through all of the internal conflicts she’s in.

Dom talks the Clace kiss in 2×14

Going back to last week first, break down shooting that kiss between Clary and Jace in front of Simon. It was so tough to watch!
It was brutal! When you’re on set you don’t really realize how bad it is until it’s all kind of cut together and it was heartbreaking when we saw it. But obviously, Jace wasn’t paying as much attention to Simon and his emotions. It kind of encapsulated Jace’s emotions but then when you watch it, poor Simon. It was so heartbreaking.

Tell me about Jace’s standpoint when he gets that kiss. Did this kind of open things up for him for Clary?
The thing with Jace is his feelings never really changed and for a long time he was fighting them because it was incorrect—they were brother and sister, he shouldn’t be having those feelings—so he was fighting them for the longest time. But they weren’t brother and sister so those feelings were all kind of justified in his head, but she was in a relationship with Simon so that’s, again, not correct. I think in that moment it was just a lot of passion, they both just fell into each other and it felt correct and nothing else in the world mattered. It was just the two of them and they forgot where they were and who they were.

Kat talks s2 finale

Hidden Remote: We know it’s been teased in the trailer that a major character is going to die. Is it safe to assume that Clary and Jace are both safe?

Katherine McNamara: I cannot confirm or deny the life or death of any of the characters, but what I can say is that there is at least one major death in our finale… and it will shock you. It will catch you off guard and it will break your heart.

Hidden Remote: Would you say that Clary and Jace are officially a couple now? It makes me nervous because every time a couple is too happy on this show, something bad happens…
McNamara: I know. Isn’t that always the case in the Shadow World? But it’s a great moment for Clary and Jace because finally they’re both at a point where they’re open to exploring this relationship, and they’re ready to kind of explore this connection that they have.

There’s been no point in the series where one isn’t suppressing feelings for the other or running away from the other person because they’re not ready to discuss their feelings.

But I think both of them have realized that they can’t deny this connection for each other, and they can’t deny what they feel, and as we saw in that scene when they were using their angelic powers to track Jonathan, there’s a power in their connection.

There’s a power in their emotions for each other, and they need all the power they can get if they’re going to take down the Seelie Queen and Valentine.

So, will Clary get with Jace after the kiss? “Not very quickly at all,” says Dom. “In fact it’s something that we’ll probably explore more in season 3. This was the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much more to play with and discover with these two. Clary’s in this really tough place, her raw passion got the best of her in this moment but she does love Simon, she would do anything for him. She’s in this place of ‘what is my future? Do I belong with Simon or with Jace?’ The Seelie court was a life or death situation, we explore Jace and Clary’s feelings kind of in that way always. They’re very respectful of one another. It’s awkward because of everything that’s happened, those emotions come out in times of extenuated emotional passion.”
